AI is taking the world by storm as it is being used in so many trades of work. From business aspects all the way to construction aspects. It really feels like AI can do it all! Or is that true? Although AI is an amazing tool I feel that within the psychology field, I believe it would be hard to help.
Psychology is defined as “the scientific study of the mind and behavior” by psychology.osu.edu. They study people’s emotions and how they are feeling, and that is what I believe AI will lack the ability to do. As described by invoca.com, AI cannot “Feel Empathy, Sympathy, or Anything Else for That Matter”. AI thinks very rationally and is unable to understand and feel emotion. When it comes to being a therapist sure you do need some rationality, however, you mostly need empathy to feel the other person’s thoughts and feelings to help them. One reason this might be is the fact that they don’t have emotions themselves. It is difficult to be empathetic without even knowing what it is like to be in another’s shoes.
Although I believe AI is a fantastic tool and will keep growing as time passes, I thoroughly believe this will be a field that AI just cannot do.
