In class, we discussed Neuralink extensively, Elon Musk’s brain chip technology that utilizes neural waves to communicate with the brain, potentially aiding individuals with mental health issues and restoring vision to the blind. With the trials progressing to human testing, according to Fox News, Musk stated, “the patient is recovering well, and the initial results show promising neuron spike detection.” This implies that the implant can detect the electrical impulses the brain uses for communication with the body.

During our discussion, our initial reactions to this technology were varied, but many expressed apprehension. Some concerns included the invasive nature of the surgical procedure involved in implanting the chip and fears regarding potential malfunctions. Questions also arose about what would happen if newer versions were released; would individuals be left with outdated technology in their brains? These uncertainties make me hesitant to embrace this technology without seeing its trajectory first-hand. However, this is just my perspective.

Would you consider trying Neuralink if given the opportunity?
